Ironmaster Quick Lock Dumbbells vs. PowerBlock Elite 90

By Johan Oosthuizen On July 1, 2010 Under Muscle Building Tips, Weight Loss Tips

When comparing these two adjustable dumbbell systems, it is important to note that both sets of dumbbells are adjustable and utilize a small metal pin that allows the user to lock in different weight settings. This is where the similarities end, though, as they differ in price, design, and weight. This is an intense competition between two of the biggest names in home fitness equipment, but which one is really the best buy? In terms of getting the job done, is there any appreciable difference between the PowerBlock Elite 90 and the Ironmaster Quick Lock dumbbell?

You can adjust the weight by 2.5 pounds each time for the Ironmaster dumbbells, going up from 5 -75 pounds. While you can buy more weights that will increase this plateau to 120 pounds. Without expanding the weight range, these are perfectly suited to both beginning and more advanced lifters.

With a design reminiscent of traditional dumbbells and small handles, these dumbbells are comfortable to use. The dumbbells have a box type shape, and a small pin is inserted to select desired resistance.

Because of their design, which is a bit more sleek and simple compared to other manufacturers, many users say that these dumbbells feel a lot less “clunky” than other adjustable weights that they have used. These dumbbells are extremely durable and are great for really intense workouts, due in large part to their steel and chrome design.

Ironmaster dumbbells offer an extremely attractive price package compared to similar items. Not only are they very well priced, but they come equipped with a specially designed rack which houses all of the weights. Ironmaster dumbells also have an ironclad manufacturing guarantee against defects.

It is a toss up whether you like the style of the PowerBlock Elite 90 dumbbells or the competing Ironmaster dumbbells. There are those that like the “old school” look of Ironmaster, while others prefer the modern sleek appearance of Powerblock, but both get the job done. They are made up of squares with pillars carrying the weight inside, with a handle across the center.

The PowerBlock Elite 90 has a completely different feel than other types of dumbbells, but their design makes them more compact than other models, which is preferred by many users. Powerblock Elite dumbbells will increase the resistance in 5 pound jumps up to 90. If you are looking for an adjustable dumbbell with a higher weight capacity, the PowerBlock Elite fits that bill, however the adjusting increments are twice the amount of the 2-and-a-half pound levels seen on the Ironmaster dumbbells.

Powerblock does not provide the lifetime warranty that is offered by Ironmaster, but the generous ten year limited coverage is still outstanding for a fitness product.

If you need dumbbells that go higher than 75 pounds then obviously the PowerBlock Elite are your favorite. When you take into account the price of the extra weights you would have to buy with Ironmaster dumbbells then they are quite equal when it comes to cost. However is you do not want to exceed 75 pounds anyway, then the added stand and lower price of the Ironmaster dumbbells makes them the winner.
